On Saturday, March 26th, 2022, the Saint Matthew Parish Family celebrated a memorial Mass to celebrate the life and work of Deacon James J. Lacy. Deacon Lacy was a retired deacon of the Diocese of Brooklyn who served as the Administrator of the Parish of Our Lady of Charity (Brooklyn) and a Deacon of the Parish of Saint Matthew (Brooklyn). Deacon Lacy passed away on Feb. 27th, 2022, and was interred in Florida.
Our Lady of Charity Church located at 1669 Dean St., Brooklyn, NY hosted the Memorial Mass. The main celebrant was Reverend Father Robert C. Seay, OFM (former pastor of OLC) and the concelebrant was the Reverend Father Frank Black (current pastor) of St. Matthew Parish. Deacon Jaime Cobham, who formerly served at Our Lady of Charity with Deacon Lacy, served as the eulogist.
Deacon Lacy was a Charter member of the Knights of Peter Claver, the Father James E. Goode Council #229, and held many positions in the Council including that of Grand Knight. He was very supportive of the Ladies Auxiliary Court.
The Knights and Ladies of Peter Claver attended the Mass in full uniform to honor the Deacon’s service to the community of Black Catholics in Brooklyn, NY.
